Denis Kirkaldy (DK the DJ)
While his mates were getting excited by rock and roll in the 50′s, Denis was getting interested in country music. His first purchase, a 78 of Johnny Cash – “Come in Stranger” – began a life-long love for the music. He has collected over 2,000 records, cassettes and CDs and a library of books, journals and magazines.
As a historian he was able to marry his love of American history with his love of country music culminating in winning a Premier’s Westfield Scholarship in 2005 (to travel to America) to study the impact of early country music on the development of the concept of rural culture.
He has spent time in Nashville and has met and interviewed a number of major stars, coming away with lots of interesting stories.
As a teenager he really wanted to become a disc jockey but ended up getting a few University degrees instead. Now, in retirement, he has returned to his first love and become a disc jockey (no new fangled terms like “presenter” for him) on 94one. He takes his name from a 1964 hit by one of his favourite singers, Stonewall Jackson – “BJ the DJ”.
He can be heard every day at 12.15 am and 12.15 pm with a short segment called “Today in Country” which gives information on the things that have happened on that day in country music history.
He can also be heard on Sundays at 5 am and 5 pm with “Sunday Country” a collection of old hymns sung by country stars, contemporary country gospel music and some weird stuff often based on his belief that “God has a sense of humour”.
Denis can be contacted directly at dkthedj@bigpond.com

Jane Kellaway
Jane was born in Sydney and is the eldest of three children. As a child, Jane was active in many sports, especially “physy”, at which she excelled. It wasn’t until Jane was 27 years of age that she decided she would like to sing one day.
Well 12 years and 4 kids later, that’s just what Jane is doing – singing her way into the hearts of everyone that hears her. Jane has only been singing Country Music for 3 years and her debut album “FOR CRYING OUT LOUD” is about to be released with all the songs written by Jane and her husband Fred.
Each song has been written about a different life experience – some funny, some serious. There’s a song there for everyone!
Jane looks forward to an exciting musical journey and would like to invite you all along for the ride!
God Bless

Kaza Tuff
“HELLO HELLO HELLO! Central Coast and beyond for all those out there on the web tuning into todayscountry94one where ever you may be.” Yes this is Kaza – on air Monday and Wednesday from 9 am to 12 noon, the Gig Guide and the occasional Community Service Announcement. Our website is having a makeover (and I must say it’s looking good, “Well done Carmel”) and we were all asked to do up a Bio so you all know a little more about us.
I’m a Tassie girl, the middle of three girls, born in Hobart and grew up in Claremont, yes where the Cadbury Factory is, and Mum still resides there in our childhood home, “Hi Mum”. My Dad was in the Police Force (retired now) “Hi Dad”, and my Mum was always working different jobs, but ever since I can remember we were always in the bush camping, livin’ off the land, and later living for weeks on end on a small 25ft boat, livin’ off the water so to speak. But no matter where we were Dad always had country music playing, I ‘spose this is where my love of country music comes from.
After school, then a diploma in Nursing, I worked as a nurse right up ’til I had my first child, Alec. Then we moved from Tassie to Wee Waa, NSW (with my husband’s work) where my daughter, Kim, was born. Then along came another son, Chris, born in Narrabri – ‘three beautiful kids: I am blessed’. Soon after that we moved to the Central Coast and I’m so glad ’cause I just love it here ‘my home away from home’.
After a divorce, I decided I wanted to do what I always dreamed of doing when I was a little girl and that was to sing ‘country songs of course’. Then I met T J Ray and we now sing together as Kazaray. In between everything else I’ve been learning to play guitar “see it’s never too late to try something new” and last year (with Grant Hart from Western Australia) we wrote our first song ‘Convoy to Tamworth’ and together have just finished our EP by ‘Kazaray with Hart’.
I never thought I’d be a presenter on radio, it just happened, but I’m so glad it did as it’s been a new learning curve in my life. Whatever I do, if it can put a smile on someone’s face or make them feel good then that makes me happy.
Enjoy life, keep smilin’ – Kaza x

“Tubby” Dyer (circa 1942)
A rural upbringing saw a love of Country from an early age, the old valve radio a comfort during teenage years on the farm ….exposure to Reg Lindsay, Buddy Williams, Slim Dusty, Buddy Holly, Hank Williams, Roy Acuff, Bill Monroe and others planted love for the Country Music genre, the catalyst being Saturday evenings on 2UE with the McKean Sisters “Melody Trail” show.
Time at the Army School of Music after school (trombone the weapon of choice!) ended after an horrific accident entailing a long hospitalisation and rehabilitation, during which time the guitar became a friend.
After resuming work he engaged with the Central Coast Country Music Association, which led to many facets of entertainment, emceeing, promoting and performing, and gaining an industry profile.
Many trips to the annual Tamworth Festival and events around the Central Coast and further afield, especially overseas, cemented the diversity he now expounds on air. A continual search for information and music led to the tag of “Country Music Archaeologist” being kindly tagged to him.
Since retirement in 1986, radio has been the catalyst for much of his time, and the “Bar-B-Q Country” show is enjoyed by local, interstate and overseas listeners courtesy of the world wide web.
A mixture of anecdotes, recollections, history and music encompassing Traditional, New Age, Bluegrass, Gospel, Cajun, Blues and Alternative styles ensure a broad cross-section of the genre is catered for.
Be reassured: your tastes will be catered for at “Bar-B-Q Country”……
and don’t forget *** “IF IT’S COUNTRY, IT’S ON BAR-B-Q COUNTRY”.
