Adam was one of the small group of country music professionals and enthusiasts who saw the potential when the 94.1 FM frequency became available in 2008 and agreed to become the inaugural Chairman of a group to secure the licence. Since then todayscountry94one has become one of the finest country music community broadcasting operations in the nation.

You would be aware that Adam is also one of the most in-demand country music performers in Australia and those growing demands have made it necessary for him to relinquish his leadership role. However, we’re not losing him totally and he’ll still be around to support the station. Thanks Adam for all you’ve done.

I have been voted in by the Board as the new Chairman after having been a Director for almost five years. While I am not steeped in country music, I have had more than 20 years in the commercial broadcasting industry, both on air and in the background. I have been a presenter, journalist, General Manager and CEO of commercial radio’s industry body. I am semi-retired and devote myself to things where my experience can benefit community initiatives, like todayscountry94one.

For those of you who are keen listeners, you will also have noticed a change in our on air line up. After four years of early starts, Chris James has decided to retire to focus on other things. We thank Chris for his service and wish him well.

Dean Mackin has moved from Drive to Breakfast and we wish him well in his new slot.

Be assured that your Board remains committed to providing the world’s best country music to our listeners on the Central Coast. We value your membership and contribution and look forward to hearing from you at any time.

Cheers

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) is coordinating a community radio sector wide public awareness campaign. The campaign is aiming to put pressure on the federal government to restore full funding for community digital radio transmission to ensure all current community digital radio services are maintained.

The following information provides a snapshot of the key issues and will provide you with some insight into the funding issue, the need for a public campaign, and the need for your engagement. As a Board member, broadcaster, station volunteer, staff member or listener your support and assistance will be crucial to the success of the digital radio funding campaign.

What is digital radio?

Digital Radio is a new radio broadcast platform in Australia (introduced in 2010)

To tune in listeners need a digital radio receiver

Digital radio is a free-to-air broadcast delivery platform

Digital radio is not internet streaming or internet radio

As all communication platforms are being digitized, digital radio is the future of radio broadcasting

There are 37 metro-wide community radio stations operating digital radio services across the 5 capital cities of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth

Over 1 million digital radios have now been sold in Australia and 12.3% of community radio listeners in the five capital cities tune in to community digital radio services for an average of 15.3 hours per week

Funding and Campaign

To date, the Federal Government has provided funding to cover the cost of digital radio transmission for community digital radio services

Community broadcasters cannot afford to cover the cost of accessing digital radio transmission at this early stage of its development so government funding is vital

Government funding for community digital radio has been under funded by 1.4 million dollars per year

Unless the full funding is restored community digital radio services in at least 2 of the 5 cities will have to be turned off

It is essential that full funding be restored to ensure all current community digital radio licensees and the community broadcasting sector maintain access to the digital radio platform

The CBAA has ensured that the federal government is fully aware of the serious nature of the funding shortfall

Community stations provide essential services which include high levels of local content, all genres of music, ethnic and multicultural, Indigenous, religious, reading for print handicapped and community access
